Our Roots

Filed Under (Uncategorized) by admin on 05-12-2008

Hancock Hope is an organization borne out of the desire to assist one small fire department in need after Hurricane Katrina devastated the Gulf Coast in 2005: West Hancock Fire-Rescue in Pearlington, Mississippi.

It started with a team of firefighters from a small town in Western New York and has grown into one of the most wide spread mutual aid relief efforts in the nation.

This non-profit organization is now comprised of career and volunteer first responders from across the country who volunteer their time, equipment and resources to assist their less fortunate fire service brothers.

Since then, fire departments from all over the United States have requested assistance from Hancock Hope, and we’ve responded to their calls for help.

Hancock Hope is about brotherhood: Taking care of our fellow firefighters who have suffered a disaster or simply lack the public support needed to adequately fund their operations.

What they are left with is a group of spirited, dedicated, hard working individuals who are committed to doing whatever it takes to rebound from their hardships; a group of people dedicated to doing the right thing for their community – who need and deserve your help.

Expand your horizons and make your world smaller all at the same time.
Do the right thing and get involved in supporting Hancock Hope. Volunteer with your time and talents – or with your checkbook or other resources.

There’s a print that hangs on the wall of a fire station recently helped by Hancock Hope that best sums up this team effort. It reads:

“I am my Brother’s Keeper.”

Hancock Hope is brotherhood proven. Do the right thing.
